MANILA – Two additional Western Visayas-based volleybelles joined the roster of Far Eastern University’s (FEU) high school girls volleyball team recently.
Baby Tamaraws head coach Rjay Del Rosario told Panay News that Ilongga Jasmine Therese Balasan and Negrense Frenche Premaylon caught the coaching staff’s attention from the online tryout video they submitted last month.
“These two will be valuable for the FEU girls volleyball team when the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) resumes,” the Dumangas, Iloilo-native Del Rosario said.
“I know naman na there are so many talented players here in Region 6, and they can excel and keep in step with the players in Manila given the opportunity and exposure,” he added.
The 16-year-old Balasan is an incoming Grade 11 student. This Ilongga standout from the Barotac Viejo National High School in Iloilo stands 5-foot-9 and plays the middle blocker position.
On the other hand, Premaylon is also an incoming Grade 11 student. This 16-year-old volleybelle stands 5-foot-8 and an outside hitter, the position she played when she was in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
Balasan and Premaylon were the fifth and sixth Western Visayas-based players that entered the Baby Tamaraws following the earlier inclusion of four Ilongga volleybelles.
Among those who previously pledged to the Baby Tamaraws were Kyle Pendon, Zchryren Kate Mediavilla, Elizza Anne Alimen, and Fiona Marie Arroyo.
Meanwhile, FEU is still in talks with some other Ilongga volleyball prospects that could join the team’s high school and collegiate teams when the UAAP resumes.
The Baby Tamaraws are hoping to do better than their fifth-place finish in UAAP Season 82 juniors girls volleyball, where they failed to punch a ticket to the Final Four with their 6-6 record./PN
