IPPO records 42 suicides in 6 months

ILOILO City – The province of Iloilo logged 42 suicide cases from January to June 10 this year.

Thirty-six of the victims were males and six were females. Most of them were between 17 and 45 years old.

Of the 42 cases, 39 hanged themselves, two ingested pesticides and one shot himself.

The most recent case was a 58-year-old man found hanging from the ceiling of their living room in Barangay Tupaz, Carles, Iloilo on June 8.

According to the victim’s daughter, Kris Ai Fernandez, she discovered her father Roskie dead around 8:30 a.m. with a nylon rope around his neck.

Kris Ai said her father had been suffering from a throat illness and was believed to have become depressed.

IPPO director, Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, said “pag-ulikid desks” in all police stations could help those suffering from depression and anxiety.

“Our pag-ulikid desk in very police station was placed para sa mga tawo nga nagbatyag sang depression ukon ano man nga sahi sang problema. Handa ang aton pulis magbulig,” Gorero said./PN
