ILOILO CITY – Newborn twins delivered by a mother infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) died. When swabbed, they, too, tested positive for the virus.
They were residents of Barangay Cuartero, Jaro district which logged 36 active cases of COVID-19 as of this writing.
The patriarch of the family also tested positive for the virus.
Based on the information gathered by Panay News, the twins, a girl and a boy, died on June 9.
They were delivered prematurely (six months) by their mother at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district. They were swabbed the same day and the result came out June 10.
The mother reportedly fell ill prior to giving birth. She experienced sort of labor pain. She was then brought to the hospital.
The twins were among the three COVID-related deaths recorded by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit on June 12.
The other one was an 83-year-old male from Barangay Boulevard, Molo district.
A total of 147 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 were also recorded on June 12 in this city./PN
