New Lucena cops under quarantine

ILOILO – Personnel of the New Lucena police station are under strict quarantine. Their police chief and a policewoman tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Starting yesterday until further notice, the police station could not accommodate clients, according to Police Lieutenant Ronel Flores, deputy police of the town.

New Lucena police chief, Police Lieutenant Jerson Baldevia, and another policewoman (a Police Master Sergeant assigned at the Women’s and Children’s Desk) got infected.

Flores said the policewoman tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

On Saturday, 11 personnel including Baldevia and Flores underwent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests. Results were released on Sunday.

The police chief, asymptomatic, was immediately quarantined at the New Lucena Central School.

The policewoman, meantime, was being isolated at home.

“Despite us being negative (for COVID-19), we would still undergo quarantine,” Flores said.

Seven more personnel underwent swabbing yesterday. Results would be released soon.

Flores said they already disinfected the police station./PN
