ROXAS City – This city’s modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) has been extended for 15 more days, or from June 16 to 30.
The joint Regional Task Force and Regional Inter-Agency Task Force approved the request of the city government for the extension.
As of June 14, Roxas City had 427 active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Its death toll, on the other hand, was at 76.
Meanwhile, Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras said “90 percent” of the mayors in Capiz province opposed placing their towns under MECQ.
Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr., president of the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Capiz chapter, earlier wrote Contreras to ask the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force to place the province under MECQ for 15 days to contain the spread of COVID-19.
But according to Contreras, most local chief executives were not amenable to the idea.
The governor, however, said he could endorse to the task force quests by individual towns should they seek a reclassification of their quarantine.
