Aklan’s 1st COVID case gets vaxxed

KALIBO, Aklan – More than a year after surviving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Aklan province’s first case finally got his initial vaccine dose.

Roberto Zubiaga spent almost a month at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital in Kalibo last year.

He was coughing and feverish a week after returning from Manila. He was placed on strict home quarantine on March 21, 2020 following a five-day confinement in the hospital.

On March 28, 2020 Zubiaga tested positive for COVID-19 and re-admitted to the Aklan provincial hospital.

He was tested negative twice for COVID-19 prior to discharge on April 22, 2020.

On June 15, 2021, the 88-year-old resident of Barangay Janlud, Libacao, Aklan rolled up his sleeves and received his first CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine shot at the Mayor Sol Legaspi Memorial Cultural Center here.

In a research study by the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, COVID-19 survivors are already immune or have developed natural protection against future infection, but it is still safer to get the COVID-19 vaccine./PN
