MANILA – The Iloilo City-based Matias Balbastro Dance Academy-Philippines obtained a total of 17 medals – eight golds, seven silvers, and two bronzes – in the recently held Jamili’s Scholarship Cup online competition.
John Kevin Sabuero of the Iloilo City National High School spearheaded the campaign with gold medals in the Junior 2 Male CCC and Junior 2 Male JV. He also caught a silver medal in Youth Duo Male and a bronze medal in Junior C.
Joemel Yap Magallanes of Special Education-Integrated School for Exceptional Children (SPED-ISEC) got two gold medals in Youth C Male and Youth Duo Male, and a silver medal in Youth D Male.
SPED-ISEC’s Dana Angelica Galfo scored two gold medals in the Youth C Female and Youth D Female, while Mary Ysabelle Cartagena is a gold medalist in Junior 1 RB Female and silver medal awardee in Junior 1 CCC Female.
John Michael Laniog of Iloilo National High School took gold in the Youth Duo Male while settling for semifinal finishes in Youth C Male and Youth D Male.
On the other hand, Bryant Stefano Embalsado of the University of the Philippines-Visayas won a silver medal in Junior 1 Rumba Male, while Jay Alexis Gabrielle Sarate of Janiuay National Comprehensive High School settled for silver in Youth Duo Male.
Syhara Jayden Gabasa and Sabryna Hailey Gabasa were silver medalists in the Junior Duo Female category, while Zoe Alexandria Lanceta of West Visayas State University snatched bronze in the Juvenile JV Female.
Other dancers from the squad of head coach Matias Balbastro Cu Tanco who competed but only settled for either quarterfinals or semifinals were Leanne Reigh Lanceta, Khaye Formon, and Anya Sarate.
“I just want to thank the Lord since hindi man gid kami pinabayaan despite all the adversities these past few weeks in preparation for this event,” Balbastro said in a Facebook post./PN
