COVID infects 113 Iloilo cops

ILOILO City – One hundred thirteen personnel of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) have been infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) since last year.

IPPO’s data (from July last year to June 21 this year) showed 84 of these police officers already recovered, while 29 are still recuperating in quarantine facilities.

According to IPPO director, Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, the active infections came from the following police stations: San Rafael – seven, Tigbauan – five, New Lucena – four, Santa Barbara – three, Dingle and Tubungan – two each, and Leon, Mina, Oton, Carles, IPPO, and the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company – one each.

Fifteen of these cases had mild symptoms while the others were asymptomatic.

“They are now recovering and they have to complete the required number of quarantine days so they can serve again to the people,” Gorero said.

He added that disinfection of the concerned police stations was already done.

“We assure the public that basic police services, like issuance of police clearance, will not be hampered just because some personnel were infected by the virus,” he said.

Gorero told the chiefs of police not to lower their guards against the virus, and to always observe the minimum health standards./PN
