Pavia’s Jamerlan rules National Age Group Hybrid Chess Grand Finals

ILOILO – Eight-years-old chess player from Pavia of this province will be one of the country’s flag bearers in the ASEAN Age Group online chess tournament on Aug. 1, 2021.

This after Shan Lester Jamerlan, a Grade 2 student of Pal-agon Amparo Elementary School, emerged as champion in the Under 8 Division of the 2021 Philippine National Age Group Hybrid Chess Grand Finals played via Zoom and Tornelo platform from June 26 to 29.

Jamerlan ousted young contenders from around the country to clinch the Candidate National Master title.

Throughout the 11-round competition, Jamerlan recorded a 10-1 win-loss slate. In the final round, he mauled his fellow Ilonggo player to earn the championship.
