ILOILO – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) wanted Police Corporal Virgilio Rojo Jr. of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), the cop involved in illegal cockfighting in Oton town last week, to voluntarily leave the service.
“Kon ginahigkuan niya pangalan sang pulis mas maayo pa nga mag-resign na lang sia,” said Napolcom Region 6 director, Atty. Joseph Celis.
Celis scolded Rojo when he reported to the Napolcom office yesterday, 11 days after his arrest.
Rojo was given five days to submit his counter affidavit to explain his side.
To note, Rojo, along with four others, was arrested in Oton’s Barangay Cagbang around 1:30 p.m. on July 10.
Rojo even introduced himself to the operating unit as a police officer and after knowing that he would be handcuffed, he ran, but was later collared.
Two days after he was arrested, he was released after posting bail.
City police director, Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos relieved Rojo, and recommended his transfer to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU) at the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) effective July 16 while his administrative case from the Napolcom is being heard.
However, Rojo only reported on July 20 to his new assignment, confirmed PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong.
Malong said if Rojo did not report on Tuesday, he would have been marked absent without official leave (AWOL) and would be slapped with another administrative complaint.
Rojo is currently under restriction. He has already turned over his service firearm to the PRO-6./PN
