Talking Hidilyn Diaz and other stuff

THE HOTTEST topic now on mainstream and social media is Hidilyn Diaz, the weightlifter that won for the Philippines it’s very first Olympic gold medal, so let’s join the party.

As soon as I saw on social media that Hidilyn Diaz had just won the gold medal my immediate reaction was a sense of joy and pride for our country and for us as a nation. However, along that line I also noticed that the usual suspects are starting to twist this victory of the Filipino people to fit their anti-Duterte narrative.

Hence this post from Moi: It’s a proud moment for all of us Filipinos, can we put aside petty politics and be proud of our first ever Olympic gold courtesy of Hidilyn Diaz?

And it got from bad to worse as they’re all queuing up to get a piece of the poor girl and stretch it to fit their anti-Duterte narrative.

I don’t know which is worse, the politicians riding the bandwagon of Hidilyn Diaz’s Olympic gold or the usual suspects squeezing every drop to make it a political issue against Duterte. Probably both but those making it a political issue to fit their narrative are indeed despicable.

And like that toy bunny in a battery commercial it just keeps going on and on harping on dead and buried nonissues.

It seems Karen Davila is the one so desperately seeking an apology. Hidilyn Diaz keeps on saying she has moved on and does not need any apology; all she wants is just peace of mind yet this Davila continues harping on the “apology”.

Let’s put it this way: Hidilyn Diaz is already an Olympic gold medal champion and a multi- millionaire with more rewards and prizes to come; she’s not stupid to dwell on an “apology” on a non-issue that only Karen Davila and the three percent are desperately seeking to use in their agenda.

Our Olympic champion has made it clear she does not want to be used in their political narrative.

And what is that so-called apology about?

Excerpts from an article that appeared on a May 2019 issue of SunStar:

Malacañang clarified that Filipino Olympian Hidilyn Diaz and television host Gretchen Ho are not part of the supposed plot by the opposition to unseat President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a chance interview, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo cleared Diaz and Ho’s names.
Ho and Diaz were included in the broader “Oust Duterte” matrix released by Panelo on Wednesday, May 8.
Panelo explained that the two personalities were included in one of the matrices to show that Rodel Jayme, the web developer arrested due to the series of videos linking Duterte’s family to illegal drugs, follows Ho and Diaz on social media.

“The diagram contained in said slide includes other accounts Mr. Jayme is actively following, to visualize his character, as well his political and social interests. It is in this context that the names of Mses. Ho and Diaz appeared,” he said.

He made it clear that he never mentioned during the press briefing on Wednesday that Diaz and Ho were part of the ouster plot against Duterte.

“It is unfortunate that some media outfits have put a spin on the Oust Duterte Matrix by instantly assuming and zeroing in on the supposed inclusion or participation of certain personalities namely, Gretchen Ho and Hidilyn Diaz,” the Palace official said in a statement.

Hidilyn Diaz, the government and 97 percent of the Filipinos have moved on from the so-called matrix issue which was essentially a nonissue and have embraced her Olympic gold medal victory as a victory for the country. Meanwhile the three percent continues to dwell on that nonsense which is not surprising as they can’t seem to get over Marcos who’s been dead 30 years ago. These fools should get a life.

Moving on, according to the “devotees of the cult of the yellow ribbon”, Hidilyn Diaz should be grateful to Noynoy Aquino because he signed the law that gave her the P10-million incentive. Following that line of thinking, everyone who has been vaccinated should be grateful to President Duterte because he signed the Bayanihan Act that procured the vaccines. That should be fair enough.

And speaking of that nincompoop Noynoy Aquino, I leave you with these lines:

“I was denied the official recognition from the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. No player should be treated this way, especially when I worked so hard to bring pride to my country. – Wesley So, 2021 American Grandmaster of the Year, former Filipino.

With that, we lost someone who is without a doubt the world’s best chess player of his generation. All thanks to the apathy and undying no-support of then President Noynoy Aquino. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN
