ILOILO City – The construction of bench flume in the Aganan River Irrigation System in Oton town continues despite the prevailing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the province of Iloilo.
National Irrigation Administration Region 6 (NIA-6) reported that the project which kicked off on June 2 this year has 19.34 percent work progress rate, as of July 25.
Some 198 farmers will benefit once the irrigation project will be completed.
Amid the pandemic according to NIA-6, it remains committed to its mandate to construct irrigation systems by ensuring that workers are provided with safety protections against the coronavirus disease 2019 and following the construction safety guidelines from the Inter-Agency Task Force.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 23 irrigation projects were constructed, rehabilitated, and repaired in the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras under the office of the NIA-Iloilo-Guimaras Irrigation Management Office.
Meanwhile, in his last State of the National Address on July 26, President Rodrigo Duterte cited that free irrigation was among his administration’s fulfilled promises.
“Free Irrigation Service Act of 2018 is a product that now lowers the cost of agricultural production, especially for poor farmers,” Duterte said.(PIA-6)
