‘Surprise’ drug test for 51 city policemen

ILOILO City – Fifty-one police personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) underwent surprise drug testing on Tuesday.

They submitted urine samples to the regional police crime laboratory.

Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, city police director, also took the test.

The personnel tested were from six police stations, the ICPO headquarters, intelligence office, and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU).

“I told them to report to the ICPO. When they arrived they were told to submit urine samples. I spearheaded the test to show to my men that their city director is free from illegal drugs and that we are serious in our drive against illegal drugs,” Garbanzos said.

Policemen found positive for prohibited substances would be charged administratively and may face dismissal from service, Garbanzos said.

“I included our personnel from the CDEU because they are handling drug cases, and to show that our personnel are not involved in illegal drugs,” he said.

The test results will be released anytime from now./PN
