PRO-6 to run after persons who commit capital offenses

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) would be running after persons who committed capital offense to include rape and murder.

Recently, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, police regional director, ordered city and provincial police directors and all police chiefs to double their efforts running after those who have pending cases such as rape, murder, robbery, and homicide.

Kahit na maganda ang accomplishments nila gusto ko mag-exert pa sila ng effort para mahuli ang matagal na nagtatago,” Miranda said.

PRO-6 records showed that 285 of the 3,540 wanted persons arrested in seven months had rape cases.

Others were charged with murder, homicide and physical injuries, among others.

Dapat natin linisin ang ating area through sa paghuli ng wanted men aside sa campaign against illegal drugs and illegal gambling,” Miranda added.

Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said most of the rape victims were minors and the suspects were either relatives or close to the victims.

“Some cases were reported to the police very late, especially if the victims were minors. If minors, hindi na sila makabalo nga they’re already sexually abused… So sometimes, late na mag-report sa police,” Malong said.

She also observed that the community quarantine brought about by the coronavirus disease pandemic is among the contributing factors for the arrest of many rape suspects.

Most people are staying in their houses and it is easy for the police to locate persons who have pending cases, said Malong.

On the other hand, Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, said they were able to arrest 70 rape suspects in seven months.

“We pursued the top 10 most wanted individuals, including rape suspects,” Gorero said./PN
