Guimaras receives 5,000 more doses of Sinovac

GUIMARAS – This island province received an additional 5,000 doses of Sinovac (CoronaVac) vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Aug. 26.

These vaccines are for healthcare workers, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, economic frontliners, and indigent persons in the towns of Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, and San Lorenzo.

The new vaccine delivery increased to 53,174 the total doses that Guimaras had received since vaccination against COVID-19 started, with the following breakdown: 38,554 doses of Sinovac; 8,120 doses of AstraZeneca; 6,000 doses of Janssen; and 500 doses of Moderna.

Vice Gov. John Edward Gando urged the priority groups to get vaccinated “especially nga nagasaka ang (COVID-19) cases indi lang sa aton kundi sa tanan man nga lugar sa region.”

They can contact their Rural Health Unit (RHU) or Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) for their vaccination schedule, he added.

As of Aug. 26, Guimaras had 270 active COVID-19 cases and 55 fatalities.

Nueva Valencia had the most number of active cases at 121; Jordan had 72; Buenavista, 64; Sibunag, 19; and San Lorenzo, 17.

One hundred ninety-nine of the active cases were in quarantine facilities in Guimaras, 54 under home quarantined, seven hospitalized in Iloilo City and nine in quarantine facilities in the city./PN
