MANILA – Taekwondo jins from three Western Visayas-based stables dazzled and performed admirably in the 2021 Smart/MVPSF Online National CPJ Speed Kicking and Poomsae Championship last Sunday.
The A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym nearly achieved a perfect score in the one-day virtual taekwondo competition after seven of their taekwondo jins won medals.
The gold medalists for the Iloilo City-based squad were: Alfie Diasnes (Senior Male Blackbelt Welterweight), Adriano Horlador III (Senior Male Blackbelt Featherweight), Jesseray Frantilla (Junior Male Blackbelt Bantamweight), and Ayenne Quialquial (Junior Female Blackbelt Bantamweight).
In addition, Aldriene Earl Horlador had a silver medal finish in the Senior Male Blackbelt Heavyweight category, and Djanne Sarria snared silver in Senior Male Welterweight. Seth Ryan Templanza netted bronze in Junior Male Blackbelt Featherweight.
“The team is proud of the achievements of our mighty seven here. As what we always told them, you earn your trophies at practice. And you just pick them up at the competition,” A. Diasnes Taekwondo Gym coach Flora Navares said.
Meanwhile, Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym’s Angela Joy Bermejo topped the Junior Women category, while Jannah Ysabel Velez ended up with bronze in the same category.
Overall, the taekwondo jins of head coach Denmark Pinggol secured three gold medals, including from Cyd Edric Esmaña and Alexis Eunice Araneta; two silvers from Julianna Martha Uy and Red Dyron Lusaya; and two bronzes, one from Andria Margaret Palabrica.
On the other hand, Team Phikoma-Cadiz City bagged a silver medal behind the stunning performance of Ana Rose Carido in the Cadet Lightweight category.
The Negros Occidental-based squad had additional bronze medals from Lyr Sendico (Flyweight), Loren Joy De Leon (Senior Finweight), Rhiane Wyeth Llaguno (Cadet Featherweight), and Jeincis Heward Carian (Cadet Finweight)./PN
