‘Fake cop’ busted in drug sting

ILOILO City – A drug pushing suspect who presented himself as a police intelligence officer was arrested in an anti-drug operation on Monday in Barangay Santo Niño Norte, Arevalo district.

Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Fuentes was a resident of Barangay Inalad, Cabatuan, Iloilo.

He sold a sachet of suspected shabu worth P15,000 to an asset of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), a police report showed.

Three more sachets were recovered from Fuentes around 8:50 p.m., the report added.

Total alleged illegal drugs recovered amounted to P47,600.

According to PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, Fuentes had been jailed for criminal cases like robbery and drugs.

He was detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Pototan, Iloilo but released in 2019 through a plea bargaining agreement.

The suspect was under surveillance for a month, and was reportedly operating not just in Iloilo City but in other towns in Iloilo province as well, Solis added.

Fuentes reportedly introduced himself as an intelligence officer to the arresting police personnel when he was caught.

He was detained at the Arevalo police station.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 would be filed against him./PN
