ILOILO – A former police major is challenging the come-backing former 4th District congressman Ferjenel Biron in the 4th District.
“Pareho bala sa bibliya, ang nakatumba kay Goliath si David nga gamay man nga tawo,” said Charlie Sustento, former police chief of Ajuy town.
The 4th District needs change, according to Sustento.
Growing up in Passi City, the 38-year-old challenger said he was “fully aware” of what was happening in the 4th District.
“Gutom gid ang pumoluyo sa mga proyekto, sa mga social projects,” Sustento said.
Residents of the district also want to have congressman who works even during pandemics.
“Wala ka sang may makita nga nagatutok sa kinahanglanon sang mga pumuluyo. Ang iban ‘ya busy sa negosyo,” Sustento told Panay News.
“Hatagi lang ko sang tatlo ka tuig. Kon makita ninyo nga wala pagbag-o ibalik niyo sa ila eh,” he said.
Sustento appealed for public support, pointing out that he doesn’t have a political machinery.
While he announced his plan to run for congressman, Sustento did not yet file his certificate of candidacy yesterday. He also did not say which political party he would be joining.
The 4th District is made up of the towns of Banate, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Dumangas, Dingle, San Enrique, Dueñas, and Passi City. Its current congressman is Braeden John Biron who filed a COC for mayor of Dumangas town yesterday.
In 2017, the Office of the Ombudsman ordered Sustento’s dismissal from the police service for grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, gross incompetence, abuse of authority, and violation of Republic Act 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees).
Sustento argued that the complaints were baseless and believed that a politician instigated the filing of the charges./PN
