Kisela Knights prevails over Kingsmen in PCAP

MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights kept its unbeaten record in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) San Miguel Corporation – Ayala Land Cup with a 13.5-7.5 win over Negros Kingsmen on Saturday night.

Iloilo edged Negros in blitz game, 4.5-2.5, with wins from Cesar Mariano (Board 4), Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 6) and Mark Mariano (Board 7), and draws by Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 1), Giovanni Mejia (Board 2), and John Michael Silvederio (Board 5).

The Kisela Knights also had a close win over the Kingsmen in rapid event, 9-5, on two-pointers by Antonio, Mejia, Cesar Mariano and Mark Mariano and a draw from Mark Mariano.

Prior to that, the Kisela Knights opened their Saturday evening campaign with a 17-4 domination against Mindoro Tamaraws.

The Ilonggos are currently on top of Southern Division with 10-0 slate.

The Kisela Knights walloped the Tamaraws in blitz event, 6-1, with victories by Antonio, Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Silvederio and Porras and draws by Ilongga Fiona Guirhem (Board 3) and Mark Mariano (Board 5).

The Kisela Knight also manhandled the Tamaraws in the rapid game, 11-3, coming from the victories of Antonio, Mejia, Guirhem, Silvederio and Porras and a draw from Cesar Mariano.

Meanwhile, before suffering a defeat in the hands of the Kisela Knights, the Kingsmen scored a 13.5-7.5 victory over Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors to improve their standings to 8-2.

The Kingsmen barely defeated the Dutchess Dagami Warriors in blitz game, 4.5-2.5, behind wins by Nelson Mariano (Board 1), Randy Segarra (Board 2), Rowelyn Acedo (Board 3), and Theseus Benitez Jr. (Board 6) and a draw by Jenny Mayor (Board 4).

Negros also had a close escape over the Cordova in rapid event with Mariano, Segarra, Acedo and Junaico Segismar (Board 5) taking the victories and Rolzon Roullo settling for a draw in the seventh board.

The second round of the season-ending conference will commence on Wednesday with foreign teams such as Pengcheng, Penang, Bangkok, Singapore and Sunray Junior as well as Paralympics team joining in./PN
