DOH: Aklan COVID low-risk province

KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan is under coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) alert level 2, implying that there is a low risk of the coronavirus spreading or people contracting it.

The Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 data showed the COVID cases in the province continue to fall.

The two-week growth on cases of Aklan dropped to 107 from 272 or growth rate of negative 61 percent.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) per 100,000 population is 1.26 percent in recent weeks (Sept. 26 to Oct. 6) compared to 3.21 percent of previous weeks of Sept. 9 to 22.

The province health care utilization rate of 3.70 percent is also the lowest in the region.

Seven of 42 isolation beds were occupied, while only one out of 157 COVID ward beds and intensive care unit beds was utilized.

There were clustering of cases in Kalibo with 16 new infections, Tangalan (13), Batan (10), Malay (nine), Altavas (six), Banga and Lezo (with five cases each), Makato (four), Ibajay and Madalag (with three cases each) for morbidity week Sept. 27 to Oct. 10.

Since the pandemic in mid-2019, there have been 12,563 cases provincewide and 317 deaths.

More restrictions have recently been dropped to restart the local economy, although facemasks are required at all times.

As of Oct. 10, Western Visayas reported 135,998 confirmed cases, including  3,199 deaths and 117,267 recoveries.

The region’s case fatality rate is at 2.35 percent, which is higher than the national CFR of 1.50 percent./PN
