AND WE start with pink, an innocent color hijacked by some unscrupulous politician, politicized it at the expense of a truly noble cause that has used it as their symbol. Now that color leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; the pink ribbon has long been the symbol of womenâs fight against breast cancer and not someoneâs political ambitions.
Of course ,we are talking about Vice President Leni Robredo, daughter of the late Marcos loyalist lawyer who was appointed Regional Trial Court judge by the late President Marcos and is now running for President.
I really donât care if Leni Robredo runs for president or the marathon, what Iâm pissed off is her stealing the pink ribbon symbol of womenâs fight against breast cancer. Leni Robredo shamelessly stole it for her political ambitions.
I have friends and family who have suffered and died from breast cancer and this opportunistic politician stole it. Sheâs better off using the swastika as her symbol as that truly represents her bad taste.
I feel sad for all those suffering from breast cancer, survivors and advocates. Some unscrupulous and opportunistic obviously not very creative politician hijacked their color and symbol for their selfish political ambitions. The millions who died from breast cancer are probably spinning in their graves as you read this.
It is equally tragic for Pink Floyd to be dragged even remotely into this nonsense of Leni Robredo⊠why canât these fools just stick to their yellow ribbon because thatâs what they really are â âdevotees to the cult of the yellow ribbonâ.
I wonder what happened to all their yellow shirts and dresses. A bit of unsolicited advice â donât stock up on pink outfits. This nonsense is only short lived.
Incidentally, Susan G. Komen for the CURE has the trademark for the breast cancer pink ribbon symbol.
I suppose itâs a stroke of evil genius to hijack the pink ribbon and piggyback on the awareness campaigns of the fight against breast cancer. These unscrupulous politicians even have the temerity to claim establishmentsâ awash in pink color supporting the fight against breast cancer as âsupportingâ Leni Robredo.
By the way in social media, Leni Robredo is very popular amongst the Arabs and the Indians. It must be the color pink.
Speaking of unscrupulous people, Maria Ressa is a Filipino â thatâs a sick joke; Marcus Douthit, Andre Blatche and Bienvenido Marañon are probably more Filipino and have done more good for the country than her.
And from National Artist for Literature, F. Sionil Jose: Maria Ressa does not deserve the Nobel Prize. The Philippine press is alive and well not because of Maria Ressa. No writer is in jail. There is no censorship. Duterte hasnât closed a single newspaper or radio station.
To all of you who reviled and wished me ill for questioning Maria Ressaâs Nobel Prize â I forgive you. I ask you to look deeply into yourselves; you hate Duterte so much you cannot see any good in the man and you think I have sold out to him. I donât even know him; I have criticized him. My opinion is based on verifiable facts, the truth. If you are intelligent, question the facts, do not kill the messenger that brought them. Then ask yourself: What heroic sacrifice has Maria Ressa done for freedom and the Philippines. And who is funding her.
The only credible awards, international or otherwise, are those from the playing fields i.e. the Olympics or the World Cup, here you win because you are faster, stronger or better than the other competitors. You win because you cross the finish line first, jump higher, lift the heaviest weights or your team scores more than the other team. Meanwhile, in beauty contests or Nobel Prize selection, you win because judges say you win based on human frailty.
In this beauty contest-mad country theyâre doing it wrong. They keep on sending the wrong person to represent the Philippines in those international beauty contests, they should send that convicted criminal (libel) and tax evader blogger pretending to be a journalist i.e. Maria Ressa and hands down she will win the Miss Universe crown including Miss Photogenic and Best in Swimsuit awards.
And finally, someone obviously feeling âwokeâ tried to strike a conversation in Starbucks. Addressing Moi, she said, âExcuse me but youâre that columnist in Panay News?…So what do you say about the incompetence of this government in handling the pandemic?â
I replied, âAre you fully vaccinated?â
She said, âYes, including my parents and siblings.â
âGood for you then,â I said.
I rest my case and went back to my Cafe Americano. (brotherlouie16@gmail.com)/PN
