ILOILO – Lambunao’s Mayor Reynor Gonzales is recovering at a private hospital in Iloilo City. He tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The mayor first experienced mild symptoms such as sore throat and stuffy nose. He then underwent a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
The mayor’s condition has improved.
Gonzales is yet to determine the source of infection.
Contact tracing is ongoing.
Apart from Gonzales, two staff, including a personal driver, contracted COVID. Both were asymptomatic.
The mayor reminded residents to strictly observe minimum health standards such as wearing of facemasks and face shields, frequent hand washing and social distancing.
As of Oct. 18, Lambunao had 943 total coronavirus cases, of which 141 were active.
The 10 barangays with the most active cases were Poblacion Ilawod – 28, Maribong – 14, Bonbon –eight, Tuburan – four, Cubay – four, Gines – four, Bontoc – three, Cunarom – three, Daanbanwa – three, Tampucao – three, and Tranghawan – three./PN
