Treñas: I stand for Leni

ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas is supporting the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo. He made this clear late Friday night, Oct. 22, in a Facebook post.

“I stand for Leni,” Treñas declared.

As “father” of this city, Treñas said he saw how Ilonggos “suffered and how one woman stood up in silence; a unifying leader, a friend, and a mother – VP Leni Robredo.”

“We stand for someone who has ears that listen, hands that help, and a heart that cares,” according to the mayor.

Early this week, Treñas posted on Facebook photos or Robredo visiting Iloilo City, sparking speculations that this was his way of endorsing the Vice President. But then, he said, he would “wait for my party’s decision.”

Treñas belonged to the National Unity Party.  Robredo, while with the Liberal Party, is running for president as an independent candidate.

On Friday night’s Facebook post, Treñas made his position very clear.

“I am Mayor Jerry Treñas, a father, a leader, an Ilonggo, and a Filipino. I stand with Leni Robredo in making the sun rise again,” stressed the city mayor.

Early this week after posting Robredo’s photos on his Facebook page, Treñas stressed: “I have clearly stated that only VP Leni helped us in our COVID response – RT-PCR machine, test kits, PPEs, other assistance. I have known her since she was a congressman and the late Sec. Jessie was a good friend.”

In another post titled “Compassion and Commitment”, the city mayor further expressed his appreciation to Robredo: “When you understand the cry of the community, we should not wait for the click of the camera to act. As a public servant and a lawyer, I should stand firm for the welfare of my people. As the father of the city, I must also choose the right leader to guide and lead us – someone who has shown an unyielding courage in the face of adversity, someone who has proven to be effective despite the limited resources, and someone who has no traces of corruption.”/PN
