ILOILO – The provincial government will administer coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) booster shots to healthcare workers once approved by the Department of Health (DOH).

Employees of the 12 district hospitals and the Iloilo Provincial Hospital would be prioritized, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

In the meantime, Defensor said the vaccination would stick to priority groups like healthcare workers, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, essential workers, and indigents, among others.

The provincial government targets to vaccinate 35,000 Ilonggos daily to achieve herd immunity this December.

Earlier, Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas sought permission from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases for booster shots./PN
