Police hurt in shootout

BACOLOD City – A police officer was injured in a shootout in Uriarte Subdivision, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental following the service of a warrant of arrest to a fugitive.

The operative whose name is being withheld sustained a gunshot wound on the right hand. He was brought to a hospital.

The subject of the arrest warrant for attempted homicide, Archelito Dumip-ig, was able to escape after shooting the police.  

The operation was carried out around 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 27.

Police managed to break into the house. They recovered an M1 Garand rifle, one .38 revolver, four rifle grenades, one hand grenade, two sachets of suspected shabu, one improvised tooter, and other documents.

Malou Camingawan and Leny Villlarin, alleged cooks of Dumip-ig, are being interrogated by the police. Six minors were also rescued from the house, police added.

The suspect would be facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 9516 (Unlawful Possession of Explosives)./PN
