ILOILO City – Councilors Frances Grace Parcon (proponent) and Lady Julie Grace Baronda (co-author) are pushing for the institutionalization of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) Pride Council of this city.
“We are hoping that this proposed ordinance will soon be approved and implemented pursuant to the gender and development programs and initiatives of the city to engage all people on both ends of the gender spectrum,” said Parcon.
The Iloilo Pride Council is one of the prominent LGBT organizations in the city.
The proposed ordinance is currently in the committee on women and family relation chaired by Councilor Alan Zaldivar.
A committee hearing was held on Oct. 26 participated in by resource persons, LGBTQ community members, barangay-based officers, and representatives from other sectors./PN
