MANILA – Negrense boxer Rowel Rosia knocked down Cris Paulino in six rounds to clinch the Philippine Games and Amusements Board (PGAB) super flyweight belt in Parañaque City.
Friday last week’s fight was Rosia’s first since scoring a unanimous decision victory over fellow Negrense fighter Aston Palicte in 2019.
A native of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Rosia showed his aggressiveness in the opening round. He mauled Paulino with multiple combinations.
Rosia went for the kill in the sixth round. He unloaded consecutive hits on Paulino before the referee decided to stop the match with the latter unable to respond to the former’s blows.
The 33-year-old Rosia hiked his boxing record to 17-9-1 win-loss-draw, with nine stoppage wins. This was the Negrense slugger’s third victory in his last four matches.
The 29-year-old Paulino, on the other hand, saw his record drop to 21-6-0, including eight wins by way of stoppages. He has lost his last two boxing matches.
Palicte, meanwhile, stretched his winning streak to three bouts after scoring a unanimous decision win over fellow Filipino boxer Roland Jay Biendima in a separate boxing card in General Santos City.
Palicte, a two-time world boxing championship challenger, displayed his wide experience. He pummelled Biendima in their non-title clash in the bantamweight division.
A Bago City, Negros Occidental native , Palicte’s dominance on Biendima earned him the nod of the three judges with the scores of 100-89, 100-89, 100-89.
With the win, Palicte improved his boxing record to 28-4-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including 23 stoppage wins, while Biendima has 15-10-1 record, with eight KO wins./PN
