BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson will leave it to local government units (LGUs) should they introduce coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination incentives to residents.
The province is committed to achieving herd immunity in February next year, Lacson said, pointing out it is “more realistic.”
As of Nov. 15, only 518,398 of the 1,825,370 target population have been inoculated with at least a dose of a vaccine.
Lacson appealed to barangay officials to boost their vaccine advocacy campaign.
“It is only when you have willing constituents that you can create demand,” he said.
The governor is also yet to consider giving incentives to well-performing barangays.
“It is almost the end of year already so I can’t promise, but maybe next year,” Lacson said.
The cities of Escalante and La Carlota and Toboso town introduced vaccine incentives to include grocery items, cash assistance, or both.
Other LGUs, meanwhile, proposed holding raffle draws./PN
