ILOILO City – The new director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, vowed to bring back the value of discipline in the police.
Disciplining the 13,000-police force in Western Visayas is part of the “internal cleansing” program of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to Dongbo.
“I will tighten measures that will instill discipline our ranks in the wake of incidents of violence involving police officers. There will be no room for breach of discipline and misconduct under the redefined doctrine of command responsibility,” Dongbo said.
He directed all the unit commanders or supervisors responsible for the conduct of their men, especially those who are involved in criminal activities as well as corruption.
“Our uniform is a sacred symbol of professionalism. Those who will defy my order will be sanctioned accordingly,” said Dongbo.
He also appealed to the public to report irregularities involving the police.
The city, provincial directors and police chiefs must also observe effective leadership and management in the application of the “broken window” theory.
“If the problem occurs, make solutions if within the bounds of your authority or recommend to the proper office if otherwise being in the service, I expect no less from you to execute a high standard of professionalism and do your job well even without being supervised,” Dongbo said.
On the other hand, Dongbo warned police personnel to stay away from illegal activities.
In “cleansing” their ranks of illegal drugs, surprise drug tests will be done.
Dongbo said he would intensify PNP’s Oplan “double barrel finale” to address the drug problem in the region.
One barrel will focus on high-value targets (HVT) while the other – Oplan Tokhang – will target small time drug pushers.
Meanwhile, Dongbo wanted increased police visibility on streets and financial establishments.
“We will deploy more cops and conduct 24/7 checkpoints,” he added./PN
