GUIMARAS – A face-to-face slam dunk competition will usher the new normal sporting events here following the downgrading of the province to Alert Level 2 for the remainder of the month.
Organized by the Guimaras Players’ Center Sports Academy (GPCSA), the one-day slam dunk competition is slated at 1 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Cabalagnan Gym in Nueva Valencia town.
According to GPCSA founder Richard Gabayoyo, the event will be open to 15 Guimarasnon dunkers who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The free registration for the 15 slots will begin today, Nov. 18, on a first-come, first-serve basis by contacting Gabayoyo at 09291529201.
Spectators and fans will be allowed on the venue on a 50 percent capacity and they must follow the health and safety protocols such as wearing of face mask and social distancing.
“Since Guimaras has been downgraded to Alert Level 2, we want to show na it is already safe now to host sporting events provided that health protocols are to be followed,” Gabayoyo told Panay News.
“We also want to promote, in a way, ‘yung COVID-19 vaccination. Na kung vaccinated ka na, slowly pwede na bumalik sa mga usual na ginagawa like playing basketball,” he added.
The face-to-face slam dunk competition came after GPCSA hosted a Zoom Dunk Competition among Guimarasnon earlier this year while the COVID-19 cases were still high.
