MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers made quick work of Baguio City Highlanders, 25-12, 25-10, 25-6, in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League on Sunday at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa, Batangas.

Kim Kianna Dy spearheaded the offense with 13 points. Rem Cailing added seven markers while Mary Joy Baron contributed six.

The Cargo Movers improved to 2-0 win-loss slate. It was so dominant against the Highlanders that head coach Ramil de Jesus was able to shuffle his lineup, including Victorinara Galang who was returning from injury.

“I’m taking it one game at a time, day-by-day. I’m focused on what I can contribute to the team,” said Galang who had five points and two digs in the win. “I just stayed focused, not only every game day. I need to trust myself.”

The Cargo Movers, a many-time Philippine Superliga champion, will try to stretch their winning run in the week-long tournament as they battle Petro Gazz Angels on Monday afternoon.

“We need to be ready against PetroGazz. They have a deep rotation,” De Jesus said. “It is also the reason why we gave other players exposure (against Baguio) just in case we’ll need them in future matches.”

In the first game, Tuguegarao-Perlas Spikers lost a set to a young and promising California Precision Sports side but managed to keep its poise for a 25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17 victory.

California took the second set to level but the Perlas Spikers were able to dominate the next two behind Nicole Tiamzon and Michelle Morente to notch their first win in the tournament.

Tiamzon had another solid outing of 18 points, including two service aces, and 12 digs while Morente had two blocks to finish with 11 points for the Perlas Spikers.

“Kami, to give respect sa kalaban namin, hindi namin tinitignan kung sinong team. Kami, naka-mindset all out. Every game namin championship game. Nakakahanga yung pinakita nung California,” Tuguegarao head coach Lei Diaz said./PN
