CAPIZ – Reelectionist Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras said he is not lifting a finger on the controversy that his nephew is currently embroiled in – the allegation of rape by a woman vlogger.
His nephew EJ Contreras is running for a seat in the Sangguniang Bayan of Pontevedra.
“Ginhambal ko sa iya atubangon ‘ya ang kaso. Kuha sya abogado kay indi gid ako mag intra. I will not lift a finger para lang impluwensyahan,” Contreras said in a tie-up interview by RMN radio stations in Iloilo and Roxas cities over the weekend.
On Nov. 26, the 30-year-old vlogger complained to the Pontevedra police station that she was raped and named the governor’s nephew as the suspect.
“Indi kita ya mag intra sini. Ang primacy aspect sang aton good governance nga ginapanindugan, ang rule of law. This applies to all. Indi pwede nga porque gumangkon ko sya, exempted na sya,” stressed the governor.
He added: “Kun may sala ini ang gumangkon ko, kon tuod gid nga gin-obra ya ‘ni, ako mismo mapapriso sa iya. Atubangon ‘ya ini,”
But the province’s chief executive also said his nephew denied raping the vlogger.
“Nag ininom sila kay ini sya daw may gusto sa akon gumangkon, may asawa na abi ang akon gumangkon…nag-ininom sila sa (campaign) headquarters sang akon hnabalos. Kay gab-i na, daw indi sya maghallin, amo na ang isa sa mga rason nga gintawgan ang isa ya ka barkada nga medrep and didto gindala sya sa beach kag didto padayon nag inom. Wala nakaupod ang akon gumangkon…,” he claimed.
The governor also suspected that the rape allegation could be politically motivated.
“Ako nagapati nadala na ‘ni pinulitika. Daw halos tanan na lang nga issue ginahaboy sa aton (but) basta fake news waay gid ko naga-worry kay ang kamatuoran magagwa gid,” the governor said.
He further appealed to the public to avoid making judgments “based sa galapta kay tama ka-exaggerated ang istorya.”/PN
