BACOLOD City – A one-year-old girl was allegedly hit by a stray bullet in Purok Malunao, Barangay Caduha-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
The police declined to name the victim, who passed away while receiving treatment in a hospital here on Monday night, Dec. 6.
According to the child’s father, 31-year-old Jason Abayon, around 5 p.m. and he and his wife heard a loud pop and soon discovered that her baby was bleeding.
The child was rushed to a clinic in the neighboring town of Manapla before being referred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where she died.
Police Lieutenant Alfonso Precia, deputy police chief of the Cadiz City police station, said 48-year-old Norman Ayan Berto surrendered to the police yesterday morning and admitted he was responsible for the incident.
Berto claimed that he discharged his .45-caliber pistol, although he was unclear as to why he discharged it.
Investigation was ongoing, police said./PN
