BACOLOD City – Thousands of people flocked to the famed the public plaza here on Monday night during the official switch-on of Christmas lights.

The event turned into a “MassKara Party in December,” according to a news release of the public information office.
However, several netizens described the ceremony a “political rally” of Mayor Evelio Leonardia and his local political alliance Grupo Progreso.
A total of 95,000 Christmas lights transformed the historic plaza bandstand into a “Light Castle,” while the symbolic Jubilee Tower became the “Tower of Lights.”
A “Tunnel of Light”, on the other hand, featured neon hues clothing the 40-foot passageway, giving the public plaza a trio of Instagram-worthy installations.
Sponsoring the lighting spectacle was Emperador Distillers, Inc., a subsidy of Alliance Global, Inc.
Megaworld Corp. also installed more than 19,000 lights at the Bacolod City Government Center on Nov. 29.
“We dedicate this event to the people of Bacolod,” Leonardia said. “Bacolod will grow the way it was before. We will continue to progress, and we will bounce back stronger.”/PN
