CAPIZ – A rapid damage assessment showed this province absorbing minimal damage from super typhoon “Odette” (international name: Rai), according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Capiz was placed under Signal No. 3 on Dec. 16.
PDRRM Officer Jing Pelaez said there were also no typhoon-related casualties but 30 houses were partially damaged. This data was submitted to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) – Emergency Operation Center (EOC).
Meanwhile, a total of 11,296 families (37,982 individuals) sought shelter in various evacuation centers across Capiz.
Roxas City had the most number of evacuees (3,119 families (or 11,200 individuals).
Towns also reported evacuations. These were Jamindan (218 families), Mambusao (460 families), Ivisan (310 families), Panay (1,925 families), Sigma (543 families), Pontevedra (2,380 families), Pilar (750 families), President Roxas (316 families), Maayon (821 families), Panit-an (175 families), Dumarao (111 families), Dao (141 families), Cuartero (366 families), Dumalag (222 families), and Tapaz (90 families).
Food packs were released to these families – which returned to their respective houses after the typhoon left – by the provincial government and their respective local government units.
Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras cited local government units and the families for their voluntary preemptive evacuation.
“We have seen the preparations to prevent the loss of lives and minimize the damage to properties. We have seen the efforts and the sacrifices of our responders,” he said./PN
