ILOILO City – Nineteen teams are set to compete in the women’s and men’s division of the Gametime Invitational Volleyball League on Dec. 26 at the Pavia Covered Gym here.
Nine teams are set to compete in the women’s division while 10 teams are rostered in the men’s event of the first organized Iloilo volleyball league in the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic era.
Lady Pythons banners Group A in the women’s division along with Maddy Line, Olis, J.Blazers and Team Arangka Pavia, while Group B has AC, Lioness, Unicorn and UVC.
In the men’s team, Group A is composed of San Miguel Latinos, Team Dumangas, Zarraga Pantat Spikers, the municipality of Leon and Team Unitas, while Team Arangka Pavia leads group B along with VPH, Arteestic Aces, Pythons and IDC Alumni.
To open the festivities on Sunday, Lady Pythons led by Arellano University’s Melysa Canaya and University of San Agustin’s Joanne Coronado will battle Team Olis at 9 a.m.
In the second game at 10 a.m., Team AC, led by Premier Volleyball League players DM Demontaño and Jackie Estoquia will square off with Team Unicorn.
Men’s volleyball action will follow with neighboring towns Dumangas and Zarraga tests each other at 11 am and San Miguel Latinos facing Municipality of Leon at 12 noon.
Capping off the six-game bill is men’s action between Team Arangka Pavia and VPH at one in the afternoon and women’s action between Maddy Line and Team Arangka Pavia at 2 p.m.
Top two teams per group after the bracket matches will advance to the semifinals round with winners facing in the championship round.
“We at Gametime are thankful to the LGU (local government unit) of Pavia for giving us a go signal to conduct this tournament,” said Gametime’s Rodolfo Go Villaruz.
“This is the first-ever organized volleyball tournament in Iloilo so our players were really looking forward to get back on the court and show their abilities,” he added./PN
