No more active COVID-19 cases in 5 Iloilo towns

ILOILO – As of Dec. 27, five towns reported not having active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). These were San Joaquin, Leganes, Badiangan, Anilao and Tubungan.

Here’s the data on the five towns from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

* San Joaquin – 1,248 total confirmed cases; 1,221 recovered; 27 deaths

* Leganes – 876 total confirmed cases: 841 recovered; 35 deaths

* Badiangan – 502 total cases; 480 recovered; 22 deaths

* Anilao – 300 total cases; 292 recovered; eight dead

* Tubungan – 155 total cases; 148 recovered; seven deaths

Three towns have one active case each – Bingawan, Miag-ao and Igbaras.

Here are the statistics of active cases in the rest of the towns: Oton (29), Santa Barbara (eight), Pavia (13), Passi City (six), Pototan (58), Guimbal (nine), Lambunao (22), Concepcion (seven), Janiuay (28), Sara (16), Alimodian (seven), Tigbauan (three), Cabatuan (11), Barotac Nuevo (12), Leon (14), Dumangas (five), Calinog (11), Zarraga (eight), Dingle (15), San Miguel  (eight), Maasin (11), San Dioniso (six), Banate (12), San Enrique (two), New Lucena (four), Ajuy (31), Barotac Viejo (two), Carles (10), Lemery (nine), Dueñas (nine), Estancia (four), Mina (four), Balasan (five), San Rafael (six), and Batad (eight).

Overall, Iloilo province recorded 35,053 total confirmed cases – 33,543 already recovered and 1,093 died.

Local government units (LGUs) with high total confirmed cases were Oton (2,969), Santa Barbara (2,088), Pavia (2,069), Passi City (1,915), Pototan (1,387), Miag-ao (1,343), San Joaquin (1,248), Guimbal (1,169), Lambunao (1,034), and Concepcion (986).

According to Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, head of PHO, the current drop in COVID-19 cases should not mean people should ditch public health safety protocols. She pointed out the Omicro variant of COVID-19 now spreading in the United States and Europe.

“Please make sure that COVID-19 will not spread in your barangays. Mag-3Ms lang sa gyapon. Magmaskara, magdistansya, manghinaw kag magpabakuna,” said./PN
