ILOILO City – Fifty-eight policemen donated blood during the Dec. 28 “Donate Blood as a Gift: A Little Pain, A Life to Gain” bloodletting activity of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) at Camp Delgado here.

It was a “simple yet meaningful effort” to help Filipinos in need of blood, according to Police Colonel Archival Macala, PRO-6’s Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA).

The 58 policemen were from the Iloilo City Police Office and PRO-6’s Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit.

A total of 26,100 cc of blood was collected.

According to Macala, blood is needed “every two seconds” and a single donation “can save three lives”.

The bloodletting activity as done in partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank.

“Kahit papaano makatulong tayo sa mga tao na nangangailangan ng dugo,” Macala said.

Just last month, a total of 132 police officers from different police stations in Iloilo province donated blood in a bloodletting activity at the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) headquarters.

According to Police Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director, this was the second such activity they held this year. On July 23, over 100 IPPO personnel donated blood.

In 2019, the IPPO was awarded the Sandugo Award for being a consistent blood donor. This was the highest award given to entities supporting voluntary blood donation to maintain an adequate safe blood supply in the country.

Gorero is encouraging others to donate blood. “This will also help our health condition,” he said.
