SILAY City — Rai-Rai Silay City ruled the women’s division of the 1st Mayor Mark Golez Grass Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday at the Farmbill Sweet Gardens here.
The five-woman Rai-Rai Silay City team needed just two sets to defeat B-Swan squad in the gold medal match in a rare volleyball tournament that was held in grass court.
Bannering Rai-Rai were Kiesha Bedonia of Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, Shaira Jardio of National University Lady Bullpups, Frenche Premaylon of FEU Baby Tamaraws, Mika Gallardo and Honey Grace Cordero.
The B-Swan squad, on the other hand, was led by local players Bya Garovillo, Luria Yap, Arabella Grace Isidto, Heather Jara, and Melody Pons of FEU Baby Tamaraws.
âIt was a total team effort. Each of us did our part since the start of the tournament so we are happy to be able to win the championship,â said Jardio, a Grade 12 student from NU.
âGrass volleyball was an unusual volleyball game. Instead of seven players, we only have four players on the court at a time. It is something new and we enjoyed it,â added Bedonia.
For ruling the event, Rai-Rai Silay City took home the top prize of P5,000, while Team B-Swan bagged P3,000. Third and fourth placer have P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
Other competing teams in the womenâs grass volleyball were Teampla, Team B-Angels, Team Choco-Natilla and Team Colegio de Santa Ana de Victorias Titans.
Team Tarag-Gamboa, on the other hand, bested seven other teams to emerge as champions in the menâs grass volleyball division.
Others who joined in the menâs event were Team @lbee, Team CSAV Titans, Team Bulabog, Team Brent’s Army, Team Ironic Bonds, Team Salandigan and Team KOOP Kami Partylist-Israel Salanga./PN
