BACOLOD City – There is no truth to the rumors on social media that Bacolod City will be placed under lockdown starting Jan. 10, Mayor Evelio Leonardia clarified yesterday.
He was reacting to allegations that due to a possible post-holiday resurgence in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, the city would be locked down.
“No directive for a lockdown in this city has been issued by the National Inter-Agency Task Force. Please be guided accordingly,” said Leonardia.
The Emergency Operations Center-Task Force also denied there would be a lockdown, and dismissed such talk on social media as unfounded rumors.
Bacolod City remains under Alert Level 2.
Leonardia remind Bacolodnons to continue observing minimum public health standards to curb the spread of infection.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is not over. We should remain compliant with the minimum health protocols. Getting vaccinated certainly protects us, but we have to be reminded to wear facemask, avoid crowded places and observe social distancing at all times,” the mayor said.
In a Wednesday night (Jan. 5) meeting of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), Dr. Rosalie Deocampo, contact tracing cluster head, reported that cases in Bacolod doubled from 16 on sJan. 4 to 34 by late Jan. 5.
“Those infected have a travel history or had attended holiday gatherings,” she said./PN
