KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan has achieved herd immunity against Covid-19. At least 71 percent of Aklan’s target population has been vaccinated as of January 6, 2022.
Aklan has an eligible population of 427,664 or 70 percent of 610,948 residents.
Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Jr. said 304,536 individuals or 71.20 had been fully vaccinated, while 353,486 or 82.66 percent were given their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines.
As many as 30,000 children, aged 12 to 17, or 50 percent of the pediatric population were also fully vaccinated.
Data also showed that 14,056 health care and frontline workers or 103 percent have been fully vaccinated, while 39,809 senior citizens or 63 percent are now fully inoculated against COVID-19.
Some 39,108 persons with comorbidities or 98 percent belonging to the A3 priority group also have their jabs. Economic frontliners of 72,306 under the A4 category and 84,262 indigent population also received their vaccines.
The provincial government has been calling for more Aklanon residents to take their doses and booster shots, especially in municipalities with lower vaccination rates amid the sharp surge of COVID-19 cases.
Cuachon also reminded the public not to lower guard against the disease.
