BACOLOD City – A mother and her son died. A cargo truck transporting sugarcane plowed their house in Barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra ,Negros Occidental.
The casualties were Ermie Cordero, 58, and son JR, 30.
Police said the mother died in a hospital in La Carlota City while her son died instantly.
The accident happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 14. Ermie, JR and 12-year-old daughter Leona were asleep.
Leona sustained minor injuries .
Police said the truck was driven by Henry Salgado, 46, of Barangay Bi-ao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental. He was with his eight-year-old son.
The truck accidentally hit a road railing then hurtled toward the victims’ house.
Salgado was injured and had to be hospitalized. His son was unhurt and was taken in custody by the Women and Children Protection Desk of the Pontevedra police station.
Police said Salgado appeared drunk./PN
