CALIFORNIA – Golden State Warriors got back on the winning track. It defeat Detroit Pistons, 102-86, in the 2021-2022 NBA Season on Tuesday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.
Klay Thompson top-scored with 21 points, including three outside hits, to go with four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Andrew Wiggins chipped in 19 markers for the Warriors.
Stephen Curry returned from a hand injury to score 18 points, while rookie Jonathan Kuminga had double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors improved to 32-12.
The Warriors went to work early with conversions from Wiggins, Curry and Gary Payton II for a 33-22 advantage. It grew further to 66-38 at the half with three-point hits from Thompson in the second canto.
Golden State went on to build its largest lead at 75-42 on baskets by Curry and Thompson early in the third canto. Detroit attempted to come close but only managed to trim the deficit to 16 points.
As the Pistons dropped to 10-32, Rodney McGruder top-scored with 19 points. Hamidou Diallo added 16 markers, while Isaiah Stewart had double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds
Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns completed a three-point play with under a minute left as Minnesota Timberwolves (22-22) defeat New York Knicks (22-23), 112-110, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Down 102-107 with three minutes left, the Timberwolves got conversions from from Jaylen Nowell, D’Angelo Russell and Jaden McDaniels to trim the deficit to 108-109.
Towns then converted a go-ahead three-point play with 29 seconds left to give the Timberwolves a 111-109 edge. Patrick Beverley then notched a split free throw for the final score.
Anthony Edwards scored 21 points, Towns had 20 markers, while Russell contributed 17 markers as the Timberwolves won for the sixth time in eight games.
