MANILA – Volleyball star Mika Reyes is very much excited to get the ball rolling with the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League season being eyed to start next month.
According to the former De La Salle University Lady Spiker, she looks forward to a fresh start with the High Speed Hitters, which is aiming to recover from its subpar showing in the 2021 PVL Open Conference.
“From all the years that I’ve been with different teams, adapting to change has been something na natutunan ko na talaga and yung isa sa nagpapa-excite sa akin ay ‘yung mga makakasama ko sa team,” Reyes said in an interview with “Anong Tunay.”
“New team, fresh start pero same goal pa rin naman kahit saan ako magpunta – to learn as much as I can and be able to contribute in any way I can,” added the former national women’s volleyball team mainstay.
Also making Reyes’ decision to move to PLDT easy was the opportunity to reunite with some of her former teammates like Aklanon Dell Palomata, Rhea Dimaculangan and Jovielyn Prado.
“I feel the warmth ng team, backed up syempre by the people that are close to me na makakasama ko dun, plus ‘yung team composition. Feel ko mag-grow ako dun at may maitutulong na rin ako because they said they were lacking a Middle Blocker,” she said.
“I also know that PLDT has been supporting volleyball for so many years, which speaks of their commitment to the development of the sport kahit ano man ang mangyari,” Reyes added.
Completing the High Speed Hitters’ roster were Negrense Christine Joy Soyud, Ilongga Fiola Ceballos, Toni Rose Basas, Nieza Viray, Kath Arado, Jessey De Leon, Mean Mendrez, Wendy Semana, and Lhara Clavano.
“I think this lineup has been carefully selected talaga by the management,” Reyes said. “They really put in so much effort to come up with their best mix of players possible so just like any other team na may bago, ‘yung challenge is pag-adapt sa system and chemistry in and out the court.”
“But with Coach George, experienced coach na rin siya, I trust that we will all learn a lot from him plus having great leaders like Ate Rhea should glue the team closer din,” she concluded./PN
