Nakhon clobbers foe in Thai volley league

MANILA – Mylene Paat and Nakhon Ratchasima QminC closed the first round of the 2021-2022 Volleyball Thailand League with a 25-21, 25-18, 27-25 domination over Proflex RSU over the weekend at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Chery Tiggo Crossovers star continued her fine play for Nakhon Ratchasima with 24 points as they improved to a 4-3 win-loss slate for fourth place heading into the second round.

Khunmat and Chitaporn Kamlangmak chipped in eight markers apiece.  Patcharaporn Sittisad and Amornthip Khomtong got six points each.

Thatdao Kanwitthayi, who only played in the second and third sets, finished with nine points, while Arisa Promnok also had the same points as Proflex slipped to 2-5 for sixth place in the standings.

Over in Japan, Bryan Bagunas and the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler suffered another defeat in the hands of league-leading Sakai Blazers, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 men’s tournament on Sunday at the Kurume Arena in Fukuoka.

The former National University Bulldogs star was once again checked by the defense. He was held to just eight points on five hits and three blocks. He just went 5-of-24 in his attacks.

Yuki Higuchi led the way for the Blazers (15-5) with 16 points on 13 spikes and three blocks. Sharone Vernon-Evans and Naoya Takano chipped in 10 points apiece in the victory.

Kota Yamada, meanwhile, led the Weisse Adler (4-16) with 13 points, on 10 attacks, two service aces, and a block, while Venezuelan import Emerson Rodriguez had 11 points.

Meanwhile, Marck Espejo and  the FC Tokyo suffered a 36-34, 25-18, 25-15 loss to defending champion Suntory over at the Sumida City Gymnasium.

It was the third straight game that the former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles star was absent for the FC Tokyo due to his shoulder injury. FC Tokyo slid to 6-14 but still at eighth place./PN
