3 die, 4 hurt in road mishap

ILOILO City – An Elf truck crashed into a dump truck on Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Lopez Vito, San Joaquin, Iloilo.

Three construction workers died while four others were injured.

The casualties – who were taken to the San Joaquin Mother and Child Hospital – were Philip Amoras, 43 (Elf truck driver and a resident of President Roxas, Capiz), Nomeriano Barroa of Panay, Capiz; and Gerbert Babas of Roxas City 

On the other hand, those injured and now confined in a hospital in Roxas City were Erwin Marquez, 28; Lorevil Leal, 38; Arnel Aragon, 39; and Sandy Ponzalan, 38. All of them were residents of Roxas City.

The accident happened at around 5:38 p.m., according to San Joaquin police chief, Police Lieutenant Dionisio Estacio.

The Elf truck crashed against the dump truck loaded with sand and gravel and running ahead of them.

“They came from a construction site in the town of Hamtic, Antique. They were supposed to go home kaso lang hindi nya na-control kasi hilly road,” said Estacio.

The truck driver, 42-year-old Ricky Ningas of Barangay Bitoon Ilaya, Cuartero, Capiz, was not injured. He was taken to the San Joaquin police station.

Estacio said both parties agreed to settle the case./PN
