14 cases of Omicron variant logged in Capiz

CAPIZ – Fourteen local cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the Omicron variant were recorded in this province.

The Capiz Provincial Health Office confirmed this in an official statement penned by Provincial Health Officer (PHO) II Dr. Ramon Alex Nolasco and Governor Esteban Evan Contreras.

According to Nolasco, the results of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) by the University of the Philippines –Philippine Genome Center were forwarded by the Department of Health 6 to the PHO on Jan. 26.

Based on the data provided by the PHO, all 14 cases have already recovered. Of the 14, ten are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while four are unvaccinated.

Seven of the cases were from Jamindan town, three from Roxas City, two from Mambusao, and one each from Pontevedra and Ivisan.

Nolasco assured that the cases were properly investigated and coordinated through their respective local government units for their appropriate management.

He added that the PHO together with 17 local health offices, 10 hospitals, and two molecular laboratories in the province is continuously intensifying its regular request for WGS procedures among qualified individuals as per existing guidelines of the DOH.

“We would like to continuously appeal to our fellow Capizons to constantly abide with our minimum public health standards and avail the COVID-19 vaccine primary series and booster doses,” Nolasco appealed./PN
