KALIBO, Aklan – A low-dose version of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine is offered to all five to 11-years old. The vaccines are safe and highly effective for younger children.
Parents are eager to get their children vaccinated to protect their kids from Covid-19. More than 3,000 children aged five to 11 in the province of Aklan already registered for the Covid vaccinations.
The Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines will be administered for children aged 5-11 years, with the doses given three weeks apart.
The distribution of pediatric vaccine doses began on February 15, 2022, at Northwestern Visayas Colleges Gym in Kalibo, Aklan. The National Task Force and the Department of Health launched the five to 11 years old vaccination in Boracay Island on February 11, 2022.
The children in the 5-to-11-year old age group received two 10-microgram doses, while adults received 30-microgram doses. The safety and efficacy of Pfizer’s vaccine for younger children were evaluated by Food and Drug Administration, saying the benefits of preventing severe Covid-19 cases outweighed the risks of the possible side effects of the Pfizer vaccine in that age group.
The most common side effects occurred in the first two to three days and included headache, tiredness, and painful arm.
The Provincial Health Office-Aklan has set online registration for the five to 11 years old vaccination. Parents are advised to register online and should attend the vaccination appointment with their children.
Once a parent or guardian registers their children, they will receive pre-scheduled confirmation messages from PHO-Aklan for the vaccination.
All Covid-19 vaccines are free of charge./PN
