KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan is now classified as “low risk” for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections after battling the surge of cases in recent weeks.
The two-week growth rate on cases from February 4 to 17 is -85 percent, while the average daily attack rate or the number of infected individuals per 100,000 population is 1.21 percent compared to 8.39 percent of the previous two weeks (January 21 to February 3).
The hospital utilization rate is at 11.85 percent, the lowest in Western Visayas, as of February 20, 2022.
Amid the ongoing pandemic, the municipalities of Banga, Makato, Lezo, Altavas and Buruanga have no active cases of COVID-19.
The Provincial Health Office-Aklan has noted that COVID-19 cases in Aklan continue to decrease.
The number of confirmed cases peaked from January 16 to 22 with 853, followed by January 9 to 15 morbidity week with 591 cases, January 23 to 29 morbidity week with 532 cases, and January 30 to February 5 morbidity week with 198 cases.
The province also recorded 117 confirmed cases from February 6 to 19.
Of the 34 deaths from January 9 to February 19, there were 28 individuals or 82 percent were unvaccinated, while six or 18 percent were vaccinated.
Aklan has registered 41 active infections as of February 20. Of this figure, nine were from Ibajay, six were from Tangalan, five from Numancia, and four each from Malay, Kalibo, and New Washington.
The recovery rate stood at 97 percent with 358 Covid-19 related deaths.
Despite the declining COVID-19 case counts, people should continue to take precautions including using face masks and isolating when symptomatic./PN
