ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) will be inspecting the cellular phones of policemen.
On Monday, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Dionardo Carlos urged all unit commanders to inspect mobile phones and other gadgets of their subordinates to determine those who are hooked on online cockfighting.
The PRO-6 would commence the inspection the moment it receives the memorandum from Camp Crame, the PNP’s national headquarters, said Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson.
“Hibalo-on naton kun may app sa phone nila, if naga e-sabong sila,” said Solis.
E-sabong is deemed addictive and is being blamed for the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts.
“I have told you many times already that you are barred from engaging in e-sabong or online sabong so many times) and yesterday (Sunday) our Chief-of-Staff caught one (playing) inside camp. That is an addiction. If you are into that, we will make sure you will stop,” he said shortly after the regular flag-raising rites.
Carlos reminded police officers anew to refrain from betting (online) while on duty.
With this, the PRO-6 alerted all police chiefs to take action when the memorandum will be released.
“Not only e-sabong ang bawalan naton kundi tanan nga illegal to include illegal drugs, kotong and moonlighting. It is degrading in our part,” Solis said.
Carlos told police officers that incurring debts from this vice that can amount to up to P3 million is no small matter as this could force them to engage in criminal activities so they can pay for it.
